Werder Bremen midfielder Klaassen lifts lid on Allardyce freeze

Davy Klaassen admits he's happy to have swapped Everton for Werder Bremen this season.

Speaking in his homeland, Klaassen revealed on-field torment he faced under Allardyce, as well as the bizarre exchange once he was informed he was no longer needed.

"I had missed the feeling of being of value to the team," he told Elf Voetbal. "I really liked the first months in Germany. Life is more beautiful anyway when you play every week.

"At one of the first training sessions of Allardyce I did the warm-up with the whole group, then an assistant came to me and he said that they wanted to do tactical training with 23 men, and I was not one of them. I asked: What should I do then? 'Just ask the trainer,' I was told.

"Together, with another team-mate, I went to the treadmill and asked if he had something in store for us. He said: 'You can know for yourself'.

"It was actually weird, but that's how it went.

"I continued training every day and did not call it in. But from such a hopeless situation you become a bit faint. Together with team-mates, such as Maarten Stekelenburg, I also sometimes made jokes. Humour is important, otherwise you stay in a negative atmosphere."
