Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits they tried to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Sancho ditched Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund last summer in search of regular first-time football.
Speaking before Dortmund's 3-0 Champions League loss to Tottenham, Wenger revealed it could all have been so different.
Working as a pundit for beIN sport, the ex-Gunners boss said: "I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn't get a game.
"I tried as well to lure him because he's from London, I tried to get him to Arsenal.
“He is one of the best players of his generation, he can dribble, he has the arrogance - look at the boy, there is something in there that is part of the big players.
“You can call that confidence, arrogance, belief but it has to be there.
“The pressure now on these young boys from an early age is very big, the pressure from all the clubs.
But Wenger admitted he fears sky-high wages on offer in modern football could hamper other youngsters' progression.
He added: “I must say, they get a lot of money before they play games. So it doesn't improve the hunger index.
"So I must say for these boys it's a test because they are rich before they play."
