Wenger holding hope of first-placed Arsenal finish

Arsene Wenger is not throwing in the towel regarding Arsenal's hopes of finishing top of their Champions League group.

The Gunners meet Swiss side FC Basel at St Jakob-Park on Tuesday night in their final Group A fixture of the 2016/17 European season.

A victory over Basel and anything but a PSG win over Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets Razgrad will see the North Londoners claim top spot and Wenger is going in with all guns blazing.

"We have the same squad as we had on Saturday," said Wenger.

"I have to decide the starting XI tomorrow, but I want to win the game and do our job, and continue to win the games we play.

"We have a squad that is united. When a guy is in good form and has confidence, it's more dangerous to stop him than to keep him going.

"You never know what can happen in Paris. PSG are favourites to win, but we can assess that scoreline at half-time and see where we go."

However, the Frenchman was not too concerned whether or not his side tops Group A as there are some very even groups throughout the Champions League this term.

"Is there a difference between finishing first and second? If you look at the teams, not really, no," he added.

"So we'll see what happens tomorrow with the final results. It looks quite even, whether you finish first or second."
