Wenger has to honestly tell Walcott what he wants from him! - Former Arsenal star Campbell

Sol Campbell has urged Arsene Wenger to have an honest conversation with Theo Walcott about his role in the team.

The 26-year-old forward has been constantly slammed for underperforming for the Gunners over the years but ex-teammate Campbell feels the England international does not have a clear picture of where he fits in the Arsenal setup.

Speaking exclusively to 888sport, Campbell feels Walcott has to be told what his job specifically is otherwise his indifferent form will continue.

"I don't think it's fair," said Campbell rearing the Walcott criticism.

"He's a great lad who has played for England and done very well. He doesn't deserve all that.

"He (Wenger) needs to set the team up and explain to Theo where he wants him on the pitch. What is his best position? As a centre-forward or out wide coming in?

"That conversation needs to happen between the manager and player and it needs to be a frank and honest conversation.

"He needs to get into his head and play the game for him and show him the light. Be a real mentor."

This season, Walcott has scored just four goals in 22 league appearances for Arsenal.
