Wenger bemoans Arsenal's 75-minute performance at Swansea

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was left to ponder what might have been as he watched his side lose 2-1 to Swansea City on Sunday.

The Gunners scored the first goal at the Liberty Stadium with Alexis Sanchez netting in the 63rd minute for his eighth of the campaign.

But the north London side gave away an unneeded free-kick in the 75th minute which Gylfi Sigurdsson brilliantly dispatched past Wojciech Szczesny before Bafetimbi Gomis completed the come-from-behind win three minutes later.

After the match, Wenger spoke of his side's inability to play out the full 90 minutes, as they did against Anderlecht in the 2-2 draw in the Champions League on Wednesday, but did give Garry Monk's Swansea the credit they duly deserved.

"It was a game we were quite in control of at 1-0 up," Wenger said.

"I think we allowed them back into the game with challenges in the middle of the park that you can't afford to lose and we were a bit on the back foot after that.

"It was unfortunate to lose a game like that, we produced quite a decent performance for 75 minutes but you have to last 90 minutes.

"Did the (Anderlecht) game on Tuesday play a part in our mind? I don't think so, I hope not, and you have to give Swansea credit.

"They didn't give up and the free-kick gave them the momentum at the end, we have to take it on the chin because we didn't play for 90 minutes."

The defeat saw Arsenal fall to sixth place on the Premier League table with 17 points from 11 games, allowing the Swans to jump up to fifth.
