Arsene Wenger has blamed Arsenal's opening day loss to Liverpool on a lack of conditioning.
The Gunners squandered a first-half lead to lose 4-3 to the Reds at the Emirates Stadium in a scintillating contest in North London on Sunday.
According to Wenger, his players were not up to the physical demands of a Premier League game which led to the downfall of the team following Theo Walcott's 31st-minute opener.
"Physically we are not ready," Wenger said.
"You are in a catch 22 situation with the Euros - do you give the players a rest and start the season without many of your players? Or do they play in this kind of game and get injured, like (Aaron) Ramsey today?
"We had many players that played very late in the Euros - Ramsey, (Laurent) Koscielny, (Mesut) Ozil, (Olivier) Giroud - they went to the semi-finals (at least).
"We had four players who went very late."
Liverpool scored four fabulous goals in 18 minutes through Philippe Coutinho (two), Adam Lallana and summer signing Sadio Mane to make it 4-1 before late goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers gave Arsenal some glimmer of hope in what was a disappointing opening day for the Gunners.
