Phoenix were angered by Pools' decision to extend Porter's contact at Victoria Park earlier this month after claiming the Aussie had agreed to sign for them.
The New Zealand-based club, who play in the Australian league, claimed they were referring the matter to the PFA and the Australian equivalent in protest at Pools' decision, although SportMail since revealed the English organization had not had any contact with Phoenix.
That left Phoenix facing a situation where they would have to cough up a transfer fee if they were to have any chance of signing the 29-year-old.
It looks like Phoenix have decided not to pursue that option after handing a trial to former St Johnstone, Scunthorpe and Falkirk striker Daniel McBreen. Phoenix have also been linked with an unnamed A-league striker.
