WATFORD v CHELSEA RECAP: Gomes the hero as Hornets hold Blues

Watford grabbed another draw against Chelsea with a 0-0 result at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets, who drew 2-2 with the Blues in Guus Hiddink's first game in charge at Stamford Bridge, were promising in the first half with the likes of Odion Ighalo and Etienne Capoue creating scoring chances.

The second half was mainly Chelsea's but they were unable to get past Heurelho Gomes who produced a number of quality saves in the final 20 minutes in particular.

It was a deserved draw for Quique Sanchez Flores' men who moved up to ninth on the table as the reigning champions remained 13th, extending their unbeaten run to eight league matches.

TALKING POINTS

- Watford claiming the points required to see off relegation. Can they now put their poor recent run behind them and have a say in the top half of the table?

- Chelsea have solidified since Hiddink has come in but they are still a shell of their former selves. Will we see some fireworks late in the season? Quite possibly in the Champions League?

WHAT'S NEXT?

Watford head to in-form Tottenham on Saturday as Chelsea prepare to host rivals Man Utd on Sunday.

QUOTES CORNER

Chelsea boss Hiddink on the performance of Gomes who he managed at PSV:

"Gomes was man of the match and I think he highly deserves it.

"He made some tremendous saves in the last period of the game in which we were threatening to go for the win.

"We deserved to win. We would've loved to have had the three points here."

Watford defender Sebastian Prodl on the outcome:

"I think it was a fair result. In the end we were a little bit lucky because Chelsea had some good chances, but we have a great goalkeeper and Gomes saved some good chances, so I think it was a well deserved result."
