Watford's 2-goal Deeney reveals knee injury

Watford captain Troy Deeney admits he's been carrying a knee injury after victory over Newcastle United.

The Hornets beat Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday as Deeney scored two second-half penalties to cancel out Dwight Gayle's 23rd-minute opener.

The goals were Deeney's first since February and he has come under fire from supporters in recent weeks due to his performances.

“I want more, I always want more," said the Watford captain, who had ice on his knee as he spoke.

“The goals will mask over it, but I should have had two more.

“I am always my harshest critic and that is why nothing anyone says can ever get to me, but as you can see I have been struggling with my knee for the last few weeks.

“I'm trying to be there for the lads and to crack it out. There is no time for excuses so get it done and we'll sort the knee out at a later date.

“My knee has been playing up for a while so after this (game) I will have it drained and injected. For someone scared of needles it will be good fun."
