Watford in talks with free agent Danny Welbeck

Watford are in talks with free agent Danny Welbeck.

The forward is without a club following his release from Arsenal earlier this summer and the Hornets are among the sides to have registered a keen interest, says the Daily Mail.

Watford, however, do not have to complete Welbeck's capture before Thursday's deadline as clubs are permitted to sign unattached players beyond the window.

Welbeck was on the sidelines for much of last season after picking up a serious ankle injury during the Europa League clash against Sporting Lisbon in November.

He scored 32 goals from 126 appearances for the Gunners following a £16million arrival from United, where he came through the academy ranks.
