Watford challenge Ural for Cardiff striker Ibrahim Meite

Cardiff City striker Ibrahim Meite is expected to leave in January.

The Daily Mail says Meite is set to leave the club on a free transfer in January with Russia one potential destination.

Meite, 22, made just two first-team appearances for the Bluebirds after joining them in January 2017 and spent the first-half of last season on loan at League Two side Crawley Town.

The forward had a trial with Russian Premier League club FC Ural Yekaterinburg last month at their mid-season training camp in Cyprus.

He played 45 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly against Cypriot top-flight side Enosis Neon Paralimni, scoring in a 4-3 defeat.

As well as Ural, there is also interest from Russian club Spartak Moscow as well as Premier League side Watford, Championship promotion-chasers West Brom, French side Saint-Etienne and German Bundesliga strugglers Hannover.
