Watford head coach Walter Mazzarri has backed striker Troy Deeney to be in Sam Allardyce's squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

Deeney has been in superb form this season and Allardyce, who will name his squad on Sunday, watched him score against Manchester United at Vicarage Road last weekend.

Mazzarri said: "I am biased as he is one of my players but, of course, I feel he is international level.

"I would be proud and really happy if Deeney went to the national team. The FA can call me and I will speak to them but they have not called up until now."
