Watford boss Roy Hodgson: I could be accused of not retiring gracefully!

Watford boss Roy Hodgson says he's happy to take charge at Vicarage Road.

Now 74, Hodgson says the hunger for competition remains.

He said: "You might argue that I pushed it to the limit, but I thought that when I left Crystal Palace that was the right time to retire gracefully and of course I did say at the time, 'I'm never going to say never'.

"I'm not going to say that something won't come along that want to do and go again. But I suppose I could be accused of not retiring gracefully. I can only hope that the job I've been brought in to do by people who believe I can do it will be right one.

"The nervousness and the nervous tension that you always feel when the referee blows his whistle and the nervous tension you have got to accept it and go, if you like, through the 95 minutes. That never changes.

"I've got to learn to live with that, but I'm certainly not nervous about taking on this job or the other requirements of the job because I know that I can do that. I know I can handle that and I know that I'm more than experienced enough to come out on the right side of that."

On Saturdays while being out of work, Hodgson also said: "They have been the worst days in a way. I don't think I've been waking up every morning thinking, “Oh, God, I wish I was back in the fray." I can't say that. I've enjoyed the time, but Saturday afternoons has always been the worst time because that's the time when you feel you should be involved in football. And I've not wanted to ring round to people I know asking for tickets at matches because that didn't seem right either. So you're quite right to flag up Saturday afternoons; they have been bad ones."
