Chelsea defender Toni Rudiger apologised to fans after their 6-0 thrashing at Manchester City.
For the Blues, who conceded four in their last away game at Bournemouth, it was a dismal afternoon.
After the game, sections of the away support have claimed that Rudiger was himself verbally abused as he took off his shirt to give it to one fan.
One person in the away end attempted to berate the centre-half, while pictures also show someone appearing to swear at the German international.
Rudiger stood his ground however, facing the fan and declaring: “I've come over to say sorry - stand in front of me if you've something to say."
Onlookers state Rudiger was particularly annoyed with the incident, and that at one point he even asked a steward if he could climb over the barriers to front up to the supporter.
That didn't happen, but the 25-year-old did then spend over a minute conversing with other supporters; part of the away section also chanted "Rudi, Rudi, Rudi".
