Former Spain international Rubén de la Red is adamant Getafe can build on last season's LaLiga success.
A member of Getafe's historic 2007/2008 UEFA Cup team, who famously beat the likes of Tottenham and Benfica before losing to Bayern Munich on away goals, De la Red believes this year's Getafe squad can “maintain the momentum from last season" and propel themselves into the Top 4.
De La Red said, “We all hoped that Getafe could have got into the Champions League last season. They put together an incredible campaign but competing against strong teams like Sevilla isn't easy. They came really close but qualifying for the Europa League is in itself still a huge achievement for the club.
“The coach Jose Bordalas put together a very tight-knit team that was tough to play against. Defensively they were incredibly hard-working, and in attack they had some great players. Angel and Molina worked very well together, and the addition of Jaime Mata last summer was crucial. He was the top scorer in the second division and he put together an incredible first season in the top flight."
