Manchester United hero Wayne Rooney has been sent off for DC United.

Rooney was sent off for an X-rated studs-up tackle as his DC United side were thrashed 4-0 by Los Angeles FC.

The former England captain was given his first MLS red card after a VAR verdict on his shocking tackle on Diego Rossi.

Rooney will miss three games after being given an early bath for his lunge on Rossi, which saw his studs catch the back of the LA striker's leg.

He was initially given a yellow card, but the VAR replays showed just how terrible a challenge it was.
