New Ipswich Town owner Brett Johnson admits his consortium took a close look at buying Newcastle United before turning to the Tractor Boys.

Johnson, who alongside partners Berke Bakay and Mark Detmer, bought Ipswich under their company Gamechanger 20 ltd last season.

Speaking with Tribal Football, Johnson admitted they took a deep look at Mike Ashley's Newcastle and also Charlton Athletic before eventually buying League OneIpswich Town last season.
