Former Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock says Frank Lampard is wrong to publicly criticise his Everton players.

Following a 4-0 FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace, Lampard ripped into his players, questioning their commitment to the fight he found the squad in.

"I don't think you get anywhere team wise by criticising players in public," Warnock told the Gary Newbon Sports Show with Jewson.

"Frank Lampard is slightly making a mistake at the moment by going public when you really need to be getting through to the end of the season in Frank's case and make sure you stay up.

"I don't think criticising his players in public is going to help him in that and that's just experience to which he'll learn from it.

"You've got to put your arm round them tell them how good they are and make them feel how good they are knowing in the back of your mind that you're going to get rid of them in two months time.

"But it is the next two months which will keep you up."
