Walters predicts Stoke are potential Carling Cup winners

Stoke have a strong enough squad to win the Carling Cup, claims summer signing Jon Walters. Having picked up a knock to his ankle in Saturday's 1-1 draw with West Ham, Walters may well be rested as Stoke host Fulham in the third round on Tuesday, and the 27-year-old feels boss Tony Pulis has enough options at his disposal for the side to make a big impact in the competition.

"When you look at our squad, we have a realistic chance of going all the way," Walters told www.stokecityfc.com.

"The cup competitions are fantastic for the players because they give you an opportunity to do something special and possibly go on to win some silverware.

"You obviously need the luck of the draw, but we do have the quality here to cause any team problems, and when the game is a one-off, anything can happen."

He added: "We would love to go to Wembley, play in a final and win major honours, which is what you want as a professional footballer.

"Whether it is this season or another season, hopefully I can help this football club to achieve something."
