Walters hopes scoring form leads to improved Stoke deal

Stoke City striker Jonathan Walters is hoping that his recent run of form will help him earn an improved deal with the club.

The 32-year-old, who came close to leaving the Potters in the summer, has now scored two goals in the last two games including the opener against Bournemouth in the 2-1 win on Saturday.

"Nothing has changed as far as the contract is concerned," said the Republic of Ireland international after the game.

"I'll do my talking on the pitch and hopefully the rest of it will take care of itself. That's all you can really do, keep playing as well as you can.

"There's a massive few weeks ahead. We've got a huge game at Villa, so first and foremost we need the points out of that game.

"But then there are two big games with Ireland, Germany at home and then Poland away. If we can do well in them and qualify for the Euros, it puts you in a good position, especially if you are in the final year of your contract."

He added: "I am more than happy with my form, but the most important thing is that we've got that first League win. I don't think it really mattered how we got it.

"The second half was a similar story to the Leicester match. We all got a bit nervous and Bournemouth are a good team who pass and move very well."
