Walcott strikes to send Arsenal past Doncaster

Theo Walcott scored the only goal of the game as Arsenal defeated Doncaster Rovers to advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The Gunners dominated the first half and were duly rewarded for their efforts when Walcott scored after 25 minutes.

With an inch-perfect ball over the top, Alexis Sanchez picked out Walcott, who controlled it with one touch before lifting it over Ian Lawlor.

Darren Ferguson, son of Manchester United great Sir Alex, fired his Rovers side up for the second half and they were unlucky not to have an equaliser late on.

Youngsters Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were given starts by Arsene Wenger, while several first-team regulars, including Alexandre Lacazette, were left out of the squad altogether
