Schalke coach David Wagner is backing Bayern Munich's interest in Mauricio Pochettino.
Sacked by Tottenham last week, Pochettino has quickly emerged as a leading candidate for the Bayern job following the dismissal of Niko Kovac. Kovac was sacked on November 3 in the aftermath of Bayern's 5-1 thrashing by Eintracht Frankfurt.
For the moment, Hansi Flick is currently in charge on an interim basis, though Bayern are seeking a more permanent appointment. And Pochettino is under consideration now that he's available.
For his part, Wagner would welcome Pochettino's arrival to the Bundesliga, having crossed swords with the Argentine while in charge of Huddersfield Town. The German is in no doubt Pochettino would add to the league - just as Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, did when head coach of Bayern.
Wagner, 48, had four years in charge of the Terriers and told BILD: "If that works, then we would have a really good coach in the league after Jürgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola."
Wagner also says Pochettino will prove popular among his peers, having been able to get to know the former Spurs and Southampton manager during his timei n England.
He added: "In England it is customary to invite one another into the office after the game and talk again about the game for ten or fifteen minutes. Pochettino is a pleasant person who has excelled with Tottenham."
