Vllarreal coach Emery: I can't berate players for Sevilla defeat

Vllarreal coach Unai Emery admits they lacked quality in attack for their 1-0 defeat at Sevilla on Sunday.

Lucas Ocampos struck the winner for the hosts.

Afterwards, Emery said: "I can't berate the team for anything. Their attitude was positive, and they also executed the game plan we had prepared. Sevilla capitalized on one of their few chances by scoring. We got into the box more, we had more control and also more chances, but we lacked a cutting edge. That was key to today's result.

“At 1-0, they tried to stop the game from being played. We had to speed the tempo up and we did. We had chances to equalise, but we didn't take them. If it was the opening game of the season, we'd be calm, but it's Matchday 16, and not getting a point here just adds to some of the other games we've had."

However, Emery underlined that it's time to move on and focus on Wednesday's match against Atalanta: “Now we're thinking about the Champions League. We have the chance to make history in this competition. We're putting LaLiga to the side briefly, although we're in a position where we're not comfortable. We need to continue looking forward and think about the Champions League. We will then go back to focusing on LaLiga and try and capitalise on the chances that present themselves to us."
