Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell's trial at Vitesse Arnhem has fallen through.

The Dutch club announced on Twitter: 'Because of organisational reasons, the trial of Jack Rodwell at #Vitesse will not happen.'

The former Manchester City midfielder has been told he has no future at Sunderland after they held discussions about ripping up his contract.

Rodwell, who has been training on his own, earns £70,000 per week in the Championship and has 18 months left on his five-year contract.
