Villas-Boas says Chelsea can handle any off-field controversy

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas says they can handle any off-field controversies.

The club has been living under a cloud of scrutiny since captain John Terry was accused of racially insulting QPR's Anton Ferdinand and a siege mentality has descended in the past week.

But Villas-Boas said: "The off-field situations are part of the day-to-day management of any top club. That's why managers have to have human leadership skills.

"This season we went through the unfortunate situation with John Obi Mikel when his father was kidnapped but we recovered from that.

"We support our players when there are problems but personal problems are not affecting us and this situation has not taken its toll on us as a team.

"We know we can turn things around with a positive result but it will take more than one win to get us back on the right track."
