Villarreal defender Torres auditioning for Man Utd move in Gdansk

Villarreal defender Pau Torres will be auditioning for a move to Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Manchester Evening News says United view the Europa League final as Torres's last 'audition' before they decide on their prime centre-back target.

United are already in talks with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane's representatives but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have the chance to watch Villarreal regular Torres in the flesh in Gdansk on Wednesday.

It is understood there has not been any recent contact between United and Torres's camp and the 24-year-old does not view this week's final as an audition to potentially join United.

Torres is under contract until 2024 with Villarreal and United shortlisted the Spain international and Varane on a five-man list of prospective defensive signings in the New Year.

Manchester City have monitored Torres but United are the most interested Premier League club. Real Madrid also appeal to Torres but sources close to the player do not expect any transfer to be completed until later in the window due to the European Championship.
