Villarreal defender Pau Torres agreed personal terms with Tottenham

Villarreal defender Pau Torres had agreed personal terms with Tottenham last summer, it has been revealed.

Via Fussball Transfers, AS says the Spain international was ready to joins Spurs before the start of the new season.

The 24-year-old had reached an agreement with Spurs over personal terms, but in the end pulled out of the move as he preferred to “wait for a better offer".

Ultimately, Torres remained with Villarreal, where he is contractually bound until 2024.

It's suggested the defender will seek to leave the Yellow Submarine at the end of the season. Torres has come through the academy system at Villarreal and was part of Spain's Euro 2020 campaign this past summer. He made a late return for the season due to his La Roja commitments.

Meanwhile, Tottenham eventually turned to Argentina international defender Cristian Romero, signing him from Atalanta.
