Villarreal coach Emery insists victory at Getafe deserved

Villarreal coach Unai Emery says victory at Getafe was well deserved.

Emery insists their European push via the LaLiga remains on after the win.

He said, “You can see the difference in both halves of the game. In the first half, we deactivated the press they started with, and after the opener, we had a first half where we controlled the game and we were clear we wanted to win. In the second half, the script had to change. They pushed more players forward and got past the first lines of the press.

"We wanted to find spaces to make it 0-3, but it was harder, and they forced situations where we had to defend closer to our goal. By not scoring the third, you're always open to trouble, but the team knew how to stay calm. It is a fair result.

“The result always helps you analyse what has worked, but we have done the same things in other games and it hasn't worked out. It's a question of how games go. It was important that they didn't score the opening goal."

On their European aspirations, Emery also said: “One thing is the ambition we have and another is what comes up along the way. You get more frustrated if you demand more of yourselves. This season, we've had a lot of players missing, like Pau at the start of the season, or Gerard and Danjuma.

"When we started to fight back in LaLiga, we came up against Juventus and Bayern in the Champions League. You realise how difficult it is to fight on two fronts. We want to be in Europe to do what we're doing this year.

"We need to make a lot of sacrifices, but it pays off enormously, We still want to get into those positions. We're going to continue competing in LaLiga, but there are parallel situations that strengthen the view of this season."
