Villarreal coach Emery calls for LaLiga assistance ahead of Europa League final

Villarreal coach Unai Emery has called for assistance from LaLiga in their preparations for the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Villarreal play Real Madrid on Matchday 38 which is scheduled for Sunday, May 23, yet the Europa League final takes place in Gdansk, Poland on Wednesday, May 26.

"The last day of LaLiga is played on Sunday, and we play the final on Wednesday - it should be reviewed," he said in his press conference.

"It is a proud [achievement] that a Spanish team plays in a final, and should play in the best conditions. I believe that LaLiga should look for solutions to the schedule so that we could have one more day to prepare for the final.

"We will not have time to train or recover for the final. The teams that are fighting for the title and those who are in our battle [for European places] should play on Saturday.

"It is [a matter of] moving two, three or four fixtures. I would accept it if I were on the other side.

"It does not harm anyone and it benefits Spanish football.

"It is a final and we do not harm any other Spanish team. There are other interests that I do not control, but I think you can help a Spanish team by playing the day before."
