Villarreal are desperate to keep hold of Swansea City target Marcos Senna.
The Spanish international midfielder has held talks with Rodgers over a move when his contract expires this summer.
However, Villarreal president Fernando Roig wants the 34-year-old to sign an extension to stay with the La Liga club.
He said: "The economic situation is important, but we can try if possible to reach an agreement and let him stay.
"The coach believes he is a key player, so we'll fight for him to stay."
