Villa will not clash with Belgium over Benteke selection

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert insists the club will not enter a war of words with Belgium over the selection of Christian Benteke.

Marc Wilmots included Benteke in his Rode Duivels squad for World Cup qualifiers against Croatia and Wales on October 11 and 15 respectively despite the striker having a fairly serious hip injury.

Benteke, who will not play for Villa this weekend, may only be used by Belgium in the second match if they require a win to guarantee their ticket to Brazil 2014.

Lambert says Villa are comfortable about Benteke's rehab and have not taken a stance on him playing for Belgium if that possibility arises.

"No, I've spoken to Marc anyway and the medical people are engaged in good dialogue so there's no problems at all," he said.

"But he's not fit for us this weekend.

"Christian is doing really well with his rehabilitation and we just have to wait and see how he's feeling. I've spoken to him every day, as I do with everybody else, and he's doing okay."
