Villa signing Holt: I'll win over doubters

Aston Villa signing Grant Holt insists he's Premier League class.

The former Wigan Athletic striker moved to Villa Park this week.

"I'm sure there's a lot of people who have seen the move and thought: 'He won't do that and what are they doing that for?'" he said.

"Half of Villa fans have probably said that and half are probably excited by it. That's just football. Everyone has an opinion.

"It's up to me to prove them wrong. I've done that before.

"I've got a point to prove. I think everyone thinks I've gone into the Championship and I've just failed and everyone was probably expecting me to move down to another club in the Championship.

"But Paul has given me a fantastic chance to show I can still do it. And I believe I'm in the best shape I've ever been in, body-wise and physical-wise.

"I just haven't been playing. That was the disappointing thing. I had a knee problem that niggled me for a few months but the new manager, Uwe Rosler, has come in and he's got his own beliefs.

"So if you are not playing in the Championship and you've got Aston Villa, of all clubs, coming in for you in the Premier League to play for a manager you've played under before, it's a no-brainer."
