Villa kid Carruthers targets first team chance on back of big international summer

Aston Villa attacker Samir Carruthers hopes a big U19 Euros qualifying campaign with the Republic of Ireland can lead to a first team chance next season.

Carruthers hopes an positive campaign with Ireland this summer can set him up nicely as he strives to make a big impact for Villa next term.

"I am away with Ireland in the Euro qualifiers and hopefully we will get through them," he told Villa's website.

"Then next season hopefully I'll come back to Villa and have a good pre-season under my belt.

"You usually know how your season is going to be planned out in the first few games.

"My aim is to come back and get as many minutes as possible for the first team but I've just got to keep going and keep working hard."
