Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier says Stliyan Petrov remains club captain.
Houllier reaffirmed his faith in Petrov, who took on the skipper's armband in summer 2009 following the departures of Martin Laursen and Gareth Barry.
"I won't change captain," Houllier told the club's website. "The captain is not only the leader on the field, he is a leader by example.
"He knows what we want to do anyway. I prefer to rely on a group of leaders two or three players - not only one person.
"One can be the technical leader, one can be the captain, one can be the energiser."
