Reports are suggesting that Thomas Vermaelen could still agree a new contract with Arsenal.
The Belgian centre-back, who is contracted with the Gunners until the end of next season, finds himself on the periphery of Arsene Wenger's starting line-up with the Frenchman preferring Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker as his central defensive pairing.
Vermaelen has been linked with a possible summer departure but fresh reports indicate that he could commit to the north London club this summer after he completes his World Cup obligations with Belgium.
Sources have reportedly told the Daily Mail that the Arsenal club captain is settled in London and could quite possibly sign an extension after this season if he is given assurances of his future.
