Ajax fullback Joel Veltman has warned against regarding themselves favourites against Champions League opponents Tottenham.

Many inside Dutch football believe Ajax will beat Spurs in their semifinal.

But Veltman, recalling their Europa League final defeat to Manchester United, told Ajax Life: "That also happened in 2017.

"(Jose) Mourinho did not have them on track and in the semi-final against Celta de Vigo they moaned when John Guidetti missed a big chance in injury time. Many people thought that we would catch Manchester United, but in the final we had no chance. That was also an important lesson from that season.

"Let's first try to reach the final at Tottenham's expense. Suppose you succeed, you will find Liverpool or Barcelona. Then we are one hundred percent sure the underdog. But that is not yet the case. We must focus entirely on Tottenham. Looking further ahead makes no sense."
