Former England international Darius Vassell is delighted to be back playing football after an interesting spell with Turkish side Ankaragucu. The 30-year-old forward came off the bench to help his side to a 2-0 win against Barnsley on Saturday.

Vassell signed a two-year deal in October, reuniting him with his former England and Manchester City mentor Sven-Goran Eriksson.

He told the club's official website: "It was great to back on the pitch. It had been a long time, and to see the lads all buzzing showed how much I had missed it all.

"It was nice to be part of that again. If I can maintain that and hopefully put some balls in the back of the net to gain a place, that would be nice."
