The pair won everything in the game together and were reunited at United this summer. Varane was signed from Real Madrid earlier in the summer, while Ronaldo forced through a return to Old Trafford from Juventus in the final days of the market.
Varane admits United's players weren't sure what to expect when Ronaldo first walked into the dressing room.
After their stunning win at West Ham United on Sunday, Varane told Canal Football Club via Le 10 Sport: "How does it feel to find Cristiano Ronaldo? It is a pleasure. If he is still at the highest level at his age, it is not for nothing. He's an example. It's great to be able to work, play, have fun with him. And we know him, he's made to win, to score goals, so it's better to have him with you. What was he doing when he got to the locker room? We know the aura he has and there were a few questioning looks: 'how he is ...?'"
Varane was also asked about Lee Grant's anecdote regarding the players refusing to take pre-match dessert after seeing what Ronaldo was having for dinner. The veteran goalkeeper was recalling the squad's reaction to the desserts being laid out for their pre-match meal before last week's victory over Newcastle United.
Varane added: “If it's true that one day nobody took desserts because he hadn't taken? No, no, it's just the fact that he's there… We know everything he stands for, we know him, so it was just a little joke to say that we pay attention to what we eat, because we know that he is going to eat well."
