Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is convinced his compatriot Robin van Persie will enjoy his time at Fenerbache, after the striker sealed a move to Turkey this week.

The United boss, having visited the club several times whilst manager of Holland to watch Dirk Kuyt, is confident the club and van Persie will be a good fit.

He said: "When I was national coach, I used to watch Fenerbache because of Kuyt and I was always received in a very warm way and I think Robin will enjoy that warm companionship in the club."

Van Gaal also confirmed the two departed on good terms, stating: "I wish him all the best and I have texted that to him."
