Van Marwijk says the two coaches are rare in the way they have their teams play to their "vision".
He explained to De Telegraaf: “If the two of them were to train a team other than Manchester City or Atletico Madrid tomorrow, you would immediately see the hand of the coach in the play of that team.
"It proves that they are coaches with a clear vision of how they want to play and that they are also able to convince their team with that vision.
"It's a trait that makes the difference between a regular trainer and a top coach.
"Many coaches can express their vision of football to the outside world, but in practice there are few who can live up to it on the field.
“Many coaches say they are independent, but in practice there is a big difference between saying something and being able to actually do something. Because I am sure that Guardiola and Simeone also have to deal with that now that the results are somewhat less."
