Feyenoord great Wim van Hanegem can see Chelsea boss Frank Lampard handing Hakim Ziyech a new role next season.

The Ajax attacker joins Chelsea having played his best football on a flank. But Van Hanegem believes Lampard could play him as a central midfielder.

He explained on FOX Sports: "It's a bit crazy, but I'd play him in central midfield.

"I've seen Chelsea play this week.

“Chelsea is short of people connecting. Between the midfielders, front and rear. And they didn't have that in that match (against Wolves). Of course you can say 'yes, but the Frenchman (N'Golo Kante) did not participate'.

"But he's not as sophisticated a footballer as Ziyech."

Van Hanegem added: "He has that ability. Only, it is a bit busier in midfield. Then you have to learn to act even faster. He does have that power, but that is something you have to take into account."
