Liverpool star Virgil Van Dijk has joked that he modelled his game on Sami Hyypia, while he was talking to club legend Jamie Carragher.

The latter is regarded as one of the best defenders of the 2000s for the Reds, but Hyypia was a colossal figure in his own right.

Carragher asked Van Dijk what former Reds defender did he base his game on and he joked that it was Hyypia.

Van Dijk said in a Twitter Q&A: "Tough one... probably Sami Hyypia,' alongside two laughing emojis.

The Dutchman is widely regarded as one of the best defenders of the Premier League era, as he has changed how the game is played from the back.

He is among the Liverpool players who are itching to get back to playing so they can finish off their Premier League title quest.
