Carl Valeri and his Sassuolo teammates took one step closer to gaining promotion to Italy's Serie A with a 2-0 win at Padova midweek.
The 27-year old Australian international midfielder headed home in the 62nd minute to open the scoring for the Modena club who sit third on the Serie B table, just three points off top spot with five matches remaining.
Valeri admits it was nice to help his side to a vital victory but knows that there is plenty of work to do before they can think about automatic entry to the top flight with Pescara and Torino sitting above Sassuolo.
"We're playing well and there's a feeling at the club that this might be our year but I'm experienced enough to know that it is unwise to look too much into the future.
"I've learned my lesson so I'm not getting ahead of myself and my main focus at the moment is to take every match as it comes.
"There's a lot to go so we shall see what happens.""Winning at Padova was very important and it was good to score my second headed goal of the season, which is very strange," Valeri told SBS.
