Valencia great Roberto Ayala: Man Utd move could've happened

Valencia great Roberto Ayala admits he came close to joining Manchester United during his career.

The former Argentina international twice won the LaLiga with Valencia and also the UEFA Cup.

Speaking with Super Deportes, Ayala admits he was left with regret that he never played in England, though a move to United was close, "between the 2001 and 2002 final".

He also said, "I don't know ... I love England's environments. I do have a regret ... is that I was unable to play for any team in England. There was a chance with Manchester, but it didn't end up happening.

"They never came up with anything concrete to go. I would have liked to play there, it was a football that caught my attention a lot."
