Valencia coach Gattuso unsure of Cavani World Cup chances

Valencia coach Rino Gattuso admits Edinson Cavani is out of their clash with Reaal Betis.

An ankle injury has cast doubt on the veteran making Uruguay's World Cup squad.

Gattuso said, “He has ankle problems. He hasn't trained in the last three or four days. He won't be in the game.

"I have been talking with the medical staff over the last few days. He had an injection today, on Saturday. I don't know. I think it is an assessment that the national team has to make. Speaking with the Valencia medical staff, we have not discussed it. He is training in the gym, but over these five or six days Cavani has done everything to be ready to play, but he can't. But he is in pain, but the guy wanted to be there, even though he couldn't train."

“The last MRI that was done was a week ago. His ankle is better than when he got here. But when he gets hit or makes a strange move, it hurts him. But he is better than when we signed him. He has to work, but he is a guy who likes to work. I hope he has a great World Cup, I hope he has continuity and that his ankle does not bother him."
