Valencia coach Bordalas delighted with opening LaLiga defeat of Getafe

Valencia coach Jose Bordalas was delighted with last night's 1-0 defeat of Getafe.

Carlos Soler struck from the spot after Denis Cheryshev had won a penalty. The goal arrived after Valencia saw Hugo Guillamon sent off.

Bordalas said, "I am proud of the effort from the players, of how much they ran, and of their commitment. They deserved this award. I want to thank the fans on behalf of the squad, because thanks to them we were able to win the game.

"The team had to put in a tremendous effort. We got the goal when a man down, and we could have scored a second. Curiously, when we were most uncomfortable was when Cabaco was sent off. Perhaps because of the fatigue, or because we had played so many minutes with a man down. The team deserved this victory."

He added: "Today we saw a high level of commitment and effort. It is clear that we have to improve. The season has just started and we haven't achieved anything yet. It is not easy to make a radical change in such a short time. Today you cannot criticise any player, because everyone gave everything."
