Valencia chiefs Murthy, Lim travel to Barcelona for transfer talks

Valencia have held a round of high-level transfer talks with Barcelona.

Jijantes says at the request of the Catalan club, Valencia president Anil Murthy has travelled with advisor Joey Lim to Barcelona to meet Joan Laporta and advisor Rafa Yuste.

Barcelona have shown interest in Carlos Soler, but they recognise that they cannot afford the 40 to 50 million euros that Valencia would want.

In fact, the Barcelona directors have acknowledged that, after the winter transfer window and despite some sales, they are not preparing a market of major deals.

For this, Laporta has put the names of three of Xavi's discarded players on the table in order to make a possible Carlos Soler operation cheaper: Riqui Puig, Sergino Dest and Martin Braithwaite.

The Danish striker, who is already said to be of interest to Valencia, is not a target right now and Dest's transfer could clash with the progress of current Los Che right-back Thierry Correia.

The case of Riqui Puig would have to be studied. But the first thing Valencia have to do is to decide whether their project will be led by Jose Bordalas, who has a year left on his contract.

The meeting between the two parties comes at a turbulent time for Valencia due to the audios leaked by Superdeporte, in which Murthy acknowledges on the one hand that Soler wants to leave and, on the other, that Jose Gaya will not want to stay if that were to happen.
