US women hit five past New Zealand

United States women thrashed New Zealand 5-0 in a friendly in St Louis in front of 35,761 spectators to extend their winning run to five games ahead of their World Cup title defence in France.

Goals from Tobin Heath and Rose Lavelle gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw more of the same as substitute Carli Lloyd bagged a brace and Samantha Mewis completed the scoring.

The US next travel to Harrison, N.J. for a showdown with Mexico on May 26 at Red Bull Arena.
