Manchester United full-back Guillermo Varela is close to earning a call-up to the Uruguay national team, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old has impressed for United during the injury crisis at the club and his performance in the 3-2 win against Arsenal earned him rave reviews.

The report claims that national team coach Oscar Tabarez has been short on right-back options due to suspensions and injuries and has made up his mind to include Varela.

Uruguay will play Brazil and Peru in World Cup qualifiers later this month.
