Unrealistic clauses prompted Liverpool rejection of Crystal Palace Benteke offer

Liverpool opted to turn down a fresh offer from Crystal Palace for Christian Benteke on Tuesday.

The Daily Express and The Sun report that the Eagles lodged a bid of £23.5million for the Belgian striker which included add-ons and bonuses of up to £7m.

Palace hoped to insert a triple clause for a £2.5m bonus if they finished in a Champions League position this season with Benteke featuring in 70% of matches and scoring 20 or more goals.

However, the Reds felt that Palace's clauses and triggers were simply unrealistic and rejected the proposal.

Benteke has been given permission to leave Anfield this summer after struggling in his debut season on Merseyside following £32.5m move from Aston Villa.
